Alaafin’s Shocking Death Messes Up Femi Gbajabiamila’s 60th Birthday Plans
One very important Nigerian who is truly saddened by by shocking death of Iku Baba Yeye, Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi, is Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, Speaker, House of Representatives.
And the reason is simple – the demise of the first class traditional ruler just messed up his 60th birthday plans.
Unique Hitz reliably gathered that plans had been concluded by the Alaafin to confer the chieftaincy title of Aare Baasofin of Yorubaland on Gbajabiamila in commemoration of his 60th birthday.
Friday, May 27, 2022 had been chosen. The venue would have been the forecourt of the Alaafin’s palace in Oyo State. The time chosen was 10AM. APC presidential hopeful, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu had accepted to be the chairman of the day. The Ooni of Ife, Oba Babatunde Enitan Ogunwusi had been pencilled down as the Royal Father of the day. Colours white and sky blue had been chosen. The ‘musical services’ of Ebenezer Obey and Wasiu Ayinde (K1) had been engaged. Millions of naira, we gathered, had equally been budgeted for different kinds of food, choice drinks, security, accommodation and so on.
Unfortunately, death struck days to the big event, plunging the entire Yorubaland into deep mourning and also messing up all of Gbajabiamila’s plans and arrangements. “In fact, chances that he will still get the exalted title are very, very slim”, said a source. “He may just say bye-bye to being addressed as Baasofin, if you ask me”, the source added.
Commenting on the monumental tragedy, The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, described the passing away of the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, as a sad development that touched him personally.
Gbajabiamila said the death of the paramount Yoruba ruler came to him as a rude shock, describing the late Alaafin, who had been like a father to him, as a very intelligent father with a sound grasp of traditional, social, political and international history.
According to him, Oba Adeyemi was a man of peace whose five decades of quality leadership to his people endeared him to the masses.
Speaker Gbajabiamila, who was recently appointed the Aare Baasofin of Yoruba Land by the late Alaafin, said the death of the traditional ruler has created a void too difficult to fill.
He said the Alaafin would be sorely missed by him and all Nigerians, especially the Yoruba people, as he served as a father figure to all, giving wise counsel when needed. He has supported the political career of many Nigerian leaders especially in the quest of Gbajabiamila’s journey to the Speakership of the country.
While praying for Allah (SWT) to find a peaceful resting place for the Alaafin, Gbajabiamila sent his condolences to the people and Government of Oyo State, especially the Royal Family and the entire Yoruba race, ended Lanre Lasisi, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Speaker, House of Representatives, Federal Republic of Nigeria.
